Who Is Excluded?

Foreign students, sponsored students and management-quota admissions are excluded.
A student who already received the scholarship for an earlier postgraduate course cannot claim it again for a second PG programme, including prior support through IIT/NIT schemes covered by the exclusion.
Other financial assistance affects concurrent payment; the period of other assistance is deducted from the maximum scholarship duration.
Medical interruption can pause payment; resumption does not create a fresh 24-month entitlement.

Duration, Work and Leave

Recipients undertake 8-10 hours of assigned teaching or research work each week, such as laboratory work, tutorials or other academic tasks assigned by the institution. Payment depends on satisfactory academic performance and compliance with the scheme.

The maximum period is 24 months or the actual course duration, whichever is shorter. Permitted parental leave follows the applicable government norms and does not extend the scholarship duration. A medical break may pause payment; only the remaining eligible period can resume.

Application and Institution Verification

The institution must verify the student's admission, score and scheme eligibility before payment can proceed. Keep the scorecard, admission record, Aadhaar and the programme details consistent. The 2027 application dates are not announced.

The scheme does not accept delayed claims made more than one year after course completion. Resolve pending verification while enrolled; an exam result alone is not evidence that the institution submitted or approved a claim. The GATE score-validity rule must also be satisfied at admission.

Will passing GATE automatically give me INR 12,400 each month?+

No. The scholarship is linked to eligible postgraduate enrolment, programme/institution approval, score validity and verification. A qualified candidate who has not joined an eligible course does not receive it merely for the examination result.

Can I receive it again for a second M.Tech?+

The published scheme excludes a second PG scholarship when the student already received this support for an earlier postgraduate course, including the specified IIT/NIT cases.

Does parental leave extend the scholarship beyond 24 months?+

No. Permitted leave follows the applicable norms but does not extend the maximum scholarship duration.

Has the amount increased to INR 18,600 for 2027?+
