Ques. Where will I get my GATE registration number?
Ans. GATE enrollment ID or registration number is generated after your online registration on the GOAPS Portal. You receive the enrollment ID on your registered email. You need the registration number and password as login credentials for further processes.
Ques. My payment for GATE registration failed, but the amount was debited from my bank account. Will I get a refund?
Ans. Yes, the exam authorities refund the fee in case of a failed payment. It may take 5 to 7 bank days to be credited to your bank account.
Ques. Can I appear in any of the GATE papers?
Ans. GATE offers 30 test papers. You are allowed to choose up to two GATE papers. However, you have to choose the two papers from the given test paper combinations. The papers should also be relevant to the discipline you studied in the qualifying degree.
Ques. Why do I need to select three exam centers in GATE application form?
Ans. Generally, you are assigned the first exam center that you select for GATE 2026. The exam centers are assigned on a first-come-first-serve basis. So, if there are too many candidates selecting one exam center, the other two choices are taken into consideration. The exam authorities can add or remove an exam center from the list and allot a different center to you.
Ques. My application is marked ‘Defective’. Will my GATE registration be rejected?
Ans. Your GATE registration might be marked as ‘Defective’ if you upload documents that do not follow the guidelines or if there are mistakes in the application form. In such cases, you will receive an email, SMS, or phone call from the concerned authorities from your Zone. You get an opportunity to rectify the error by uploading the correct document or editing the application. If you fail to correct the ‘defective’ application, your registration will be rejected.
