Documents Required for GATE 2027 Registration

Keep the photo ID consistent with your application name. The same original ID must be available on examination day. The GATE 2027 application process explains how document submission fits into registration, payment and scrutiny.

DigiLocker Details and Consent

DigiLocker provides the name, date of birth, verified mobile number and email, address and verified ID information for Indian applicants. Give GATE 2027 consent to access the relevant details. Parent or guardian name and mobile number, degree information, college name and PIN code are supplied separately.

Choose an identity record with the correct name and date of birth. The official instructions do not allow date-of-birth changes during the application process. If several DigiLocker accounts use the same number, select the verified account, identified by its blue verification mark.

The documents page also allows registration through an unverified DigiLocker account with a selected default ID, followed by document scrutiny. This is not permission to omit identity proof. Such applicants must follow the portal's verification instructions and the original-ID checks at the centre.

Category and Disability Certificate Uploads

Create the folder name exactly as GATE2027, without a space. Upload the relevant certificate PDFs using the names below.

General, OBC-NCL and EWS applicants do not need category documents in this folder solely for their category. A disability claim still requires its applicable documents. This registration rule does not remove an institution's category-certificate requirement during postgraduate admission.

Scribe and compensatory-time documents

The required certificate depends on the disability and writing limitation. Blindness, locomotor disability affecting both arms and cerebral palsy use the applicable disability-certificate/UDID route. Other specified disabilities require the prescribed medical certification of a functional writing limitation. Dyslexic candidates need the relevant dyslexia and writing-limitation certificates. Apply for the needed facility during registration; on-the-spot requests at the centre are not accepted.

Photograph, Signature and Live Capture

For live capture, use a computer with a webcam or a phone with a front-facing camera of at least 5 MP in a well-lit area. The captured image does not remove the separate photograph-upload requirement.

The uploaded photograph needs a plain white background, a clear frontal face and no glare obscuring the eyes. The signature must be handwritten by the applicant in black or dark-blue ink. Digital signatures, all-capital signatures and initials are not accepted image examples.

Are Academic Marksheets Required?

You do not need to upload Class 10, Class 12, UG or PG marksheets to DigiLocker for the examination process. You still provide degree and institution details in the application. Do not confuse a field asking about your qualification with a requirement to upload every marksheet.

An admitting institute may later ask for semester marksheets, a degree/provisional certificate and category or other supporting records. Those requirements belong to that admission process and its deadline; they are not a single universal GATE registration upload list.

Document Defects and Name Mismatches

A payment-success message is followed by scrutiny. If the application is marked defective, read the particular defect and replace or correct the relevant item within the notified deadline. After rectification, the application goes back for scrutiny; uploading a new file does not itself mean acceptance.

The general rectification window is 14 to 21 October 2026. A defect notice from your GATE zone may contain a specific deadline, so use the date attached to the action you have been asked to complete.

Original Documents for Exam Day

Bring the printed admit card and the same original valid identity document used for the application. A photocopy, scan or expired ID is not accepted.

The photograph and signature submitted for the application are used on the admit card and scorecard. A correct online file and a readable printed admit card serve different purposes; keep both the upload quality and exam-day documents in order.
