GATE 2021 question papers are available subject-wise for previous-year practice. Choose the paper code and session that match your subject, then use the corresponding answer key to mark your attempt. The archive keeps the original 2021 papers separate from the current examination.

The standard paper carried 100 marks in three hours, with 15 marks for General Aptitude. Its question formats were MCQ, multiple-select (MSQ) and numerical-answer (NAT). The question type determines both the answer method and the marking rule.

Try General Aptitude Questions

Three original GATE-style aptitude questions. Untimed practice with explanations and retry; the result is accuracy for this set.

Choose your answers, then submit the set.

1. A pump fills a tank in 10 hours and another fills it in 15 hours. How long do they take together?

Select one answer.

2. The mean of five readings is 15. Four readings are 13, 14, 15 and 16. What is the fifth reading?

Select one answer.

3. Every calibrated sensor has passed inspection. Some calibrated sensors are wireless. Which statement must be true?

Select one answer.

Mark Your Paper

−
Answer type Scoring rule
Correct answer Add its printed 1-mark or 2-mark value
Wrong MCQ Deduct one-third of that question's marks
Wrong NAT or MSQ 0
Blank answer 0

Three wrong 2-mark MCQs cost 2 marks in total. Keep this deduction separate from marks earned on other question types.

Review Your Attempt

+
Error in the attempt Next attempt
Wrong sign or unit in a NAT Rework the calculation with units at each step
Wrong MCQ despite knowing the formula Compare the chosen option with the condition in the question
Correct guess Solve again without looking at the choices
Incomplete MSQ selection Test every option independently, then compare the complete set

GATE 2021 Question Paper FAQs

Paper Choice and Scoring

Can I use a GATE 2021 paper for the next exam?+

The 2021 archive includes Environmental Science and Engineering and Humanities and Social Sciences. XH is a paper family: Economics is one choice, not a name for the entire XH paper. Match the optional subject before using a key. Use it for topics shared with the current syllabus. Choose recent papers as well when testing the current mix of question types and optional sections.

Why does my question number not match the answer key?+

The copy and key may belong to different sessions or use different question orders. First compare the year and paper code. Then compare the actual question and option text. A letter such as B is meaningful only for the options printed in that matching version; transferring a letter from another version can mark a correct calculation wrong.

For example, if the same numerical problem is question 17 in your copy and question 22 in the master paper, use the answer for that problem rather than the answer labelled 17. Also compare the answer units and the numerical interval. A different question at the same number is not evidence that the key is wrong.

Does an answer key contain step-by-step solutions?+

An answer key gives the accepted option, option set or numerical value/range. A worked solution explains the calculation or reasoning. Use the key to mark the answer and the solution to understand the error; they serve different purposes.

Can a score from one old paper predict my rank?+

No. Rank depends on the performance of candidates in the actual examination and its result-processing rules. A practice total is useful for comparing your own attempts only when paper scope, timing and scoring are kept comparable. A short aptitude exercise reports accuracy for its questions, not a full-paper GATE score.
