GATE Response Sheet FAQs
Questions and Exceptions
Is my response sheet the answer key?+
No. It shows your saved responses. The key lists the accepted answer or numerical range for each question. You need both to estimate marks.
Can I compare only question numbers?+
Not safely without checking the year, paper and session. Match the master question identifier and content as well, especially where displayed question or option order differs.
Does a saved wrong NAT answer lose marks?+
No. It earns zero; the negative-marking rule applies to MCQs. An accepted NAT answer receives the marks assigned to that question.
Why can my final marks differ from my estimate?+
A provisional key can change after challenges, and a multi-session paper can use normalised marks. A matching mistake or an incorrect MSQ partial-credit assumption can also make a personal estimate wrong.
