GATE 2027 Result and Scorecard Dates

Save your response sheet and the relevant answer key when they are released. If a challenge window is opened, it belongs to the answer-key stage; do not wait for the result to investigate an answer discrepancy. The GATE 2027 exam guide covers the examination and application timeline.

How to Check the GATE Result

1. Open the candidate portal from the official IIT Madras GATE 2027 website.
2. Sign in using your registered candidate account.
3. Open the result for the paper you appeared in and check the paper code, marks and qualifying threshold.
4. Download the scorecard when its download facility opens. If you appeared for two papers, retain the relevant result/scorecard for each.
5. Save the original PDF and a backup; admission applications may require the downloaded scorecard.

Do not use an old year's result login merely because it appears first in a search. The organising institute for 2027 is IIT Madras. A forgotten-login problem should be handled through the candidate portal's account recovery or GATE helpdesk, without sharing credentials with an unofficial service.

What Your GATE Result Means

For a single-session paper, raw marks are used in score calculation. For a multi-session paper, normalised marks are used. The score is not a percentage, and the rank cannot be calculated from a universal marks-to-rank table.

Some optional papers also differ in ranking. GG and XH have separate scores and ranks by the selected section. AR, GE and RA options do not create separate ranks within their respective papers. An XH subject rank therefore should not be compared as if it were one combined rank across all six XH subjects.

A downloadable GATE 2027 scorecard is issued when marks reach the SC/ST/PwD qualifying threshold for that paper. This does not necessarily mean qualification in your own category; a General-category candidate can receive a scorecard while remaining below the General qualifying mark.

How GATE 2027 Score Is Calculated

The score formula uses the qualifying mark and the performance of top candidates in that paper:

GATE score = 350 + 550 x (M - Mq) / (Mt - Mq)

The 2027 General qualifying mark is max(25, min(40, mean + standard deviation)). OBC-NCL/EWS thresholds use 90% of the General mark, and SC/ST/PwD use two-thirds. The General reference Mq is used in the score formula; it is not replaced by your category's lower qualifying threshold.

Why 60 marks does not always mean the same score

The qualifying and top-candidate reference marks differ across papers and years. Multi-session normalisation adds another distinction. Without those official inputs, multiplying 60 by ten or attaching a fixed rank to it is not an accurate score calculation. A raw-score calculation from an answer key is useful, but it does not produce the final GATE score or AIR.

GATE Qualifying Marks: 2026 Reference

The final 2026 thresholds show why there is no universal 25-mark pass rule. CS required 30 in the General category; DA and EC required 26.4; EE required 27.7. These figures are previous-year references and do not determine the 2027 result.

The official 2026 table records 211,020 CS appearances and 69,242 DA appearances. These are paper appearances, not unique-candidate totals; a person may take two papers. Attendance alone cannot tell you the proportion who qualified.

GATE 2026 Toppers in Selected Papers

The CS and CE marks above are marked as normalised in IIT Guwahati's topper list. Both named CE candidates share the listed top position. These are 2026 results; GATE 2027 toppers will be known only after the examination.

Score Validity and Scorecard Download Deadline

A GATE 2027 score is valid for three years from the result announcement. The period during which the PDF can be downloaded is shorter. Free download is planned for the end of March; exact dates have not been announced; the later paid-download facility costs INR 500 per test paper and runs up to 31 December 2027 after the free period.

Scorecards will not be issued for download from 1 January 2028. That does not cancel a valid score on that date. Download and back up the PDF during the available window instead of assuming it can be retrieved throughout the entire three-year validity period. No hard-copy scorecard is sent.

What to Do After the GATE Result

The COAP process described here is the 2026 reference; the 2027 round calendar is separate. Before shortlisting MTech courses and specialisations, compare the actual admission score with your score field, not with your marks out of 100. IIT Madras's 2026 CS1Y General non-PwD admission cutoff, for example, was a score of 900, while the 2026 CS General qualifying threshold was 30 marks.

If you do not qualify in one paper but appeared in two, read each result separately. If you plan another attempt, review the marked responses by topic and question type using GATE previous-year papers instead of treating the total mark as a complete diagnosis.
