Updated October 17, 2026: GATE 2027 new registration is closed. Candidates who already submitted an application can use the rectification window until October 21. IIT Madras also opened a final special late-fee registration window from October 15 at 10:30 AM to October 16 at 10:29 AM, but that window has ended.

The final official application timeline is different from the early schedule. Regular registration closed on October 5, extended registration closed on October 12, and the one-day special window closed on October 16. Applicants should now use GOAPS only for the actions available on an existing application.

GATE 2027 registration is closed

The GATE Online Application Processing System opened on September 2, 2026 after earlier revisions to the schedule. The regular application period without a late fee remained open until October 5, followed by the late-fee period until October 12.

After receiving multiple requests, the organizing institute reopened registration with a late fee for a special window from 10:30 AM on October 15 to 10:29 AM on October 16. That was the final published registration window. A candidate who did not submit an application by then cannot use the rectification stage to start a new form.

GATE 2027 correction window

The official important-dates page schedules application rectification from October 14 to October 21, 2026. This window is for candidates with an existing submitted application. Availability of a particular field and any amount displayed for a permitted change should be checked inside the candidate's GOAPS login.

Candidates should complete corrections early enough to review the updated form, make any payment requested by GOAPS and save the final acknowledgement before the October 21 deadline.

How to correct a submitted application

1. Open the official GATE 2027 website and enter the GOAPS login from the applicant portal.
2. Use the same DigiLocker-linked identity and account used to submit the application.
3. Open the application or rectification option shown in the dashboard.
4. Review every editable field and make only the required changes.
5. Check whether GOAPS displays a payment requirement for the selected change and complete it through the portal if applicable.
6. Submit the corrected form and save the final application or acknowledgement page.

IIT Madras has advised candidates not to delete the verified or unverified DigiLocker account used for submission and fee payment. Future GATE 2027 communication is tied to that account.

Who was eligible to apply?

GATE 2027 eligibility generally covers candidates studying in the third year or above of an eligible undergraduate programme and candidates who have already completed an approved degree. The official eligibility page includes engineering, technology, architecture, science, commerce, arts, humanities and specified professional qualifications.

There is no age limit stated for GATE. Eligibility to write the examination does not by itself guarantee admission, scholarship or recruitment because each institute or employer applies its own requirements.

Documents and DigiLocker requirements

Indian nationals use a DigiLocker-based application process. Candidates should keep the account active and retain the submitted application, payment record and accepted document files. Photograph, signature, identity and applicable category or disability documents must follow the specifications shown in the official required-documents section and the candidate login.

A correction should not be treated as an opportunity to replace files without checking the live portal. Candidates should change only fields or documents that GOAPS makes editable and should confirm that the final status is successfully submitted.

GATE 2027 application fees

These are application fees for one test paper during the registration periods. A rectification-related amount, if any, should be taken from the live GOAPS instruction for the specific change rather than inferred from the application-fee table.

What happens after rectification

GATE 2027 city allotment is scheduled for January 4, 2027. The admit-card download date remains to be announced. The examinations are scheduled for February 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 and 21, with the result scheduled for March 19, 2027.
