• To be eligible to apply for GATE 2027, you must have a bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Commerce/Arts/Humanities.
• Regular GATE 2027 registration fee is INR 1000 for female/SC/ST/PWD students and INR 2000 for all other candidates.

What is GATE 2027?

GATE, or Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering, is an examination conducted by 7 IITs and IISc Bangalore on a rotational basis. The examination tests students' understanding and conceptual clarity of various subjects of Engineering/ Technology/ Architecture/ Science/ Commerce/ Arts/ Humanities.

• This year, GATE exam is being organized by IIT Madras.
• GATE exam is conducted for admission to courses like M.E., M.Tech, Ph.D. at institutes like IISc, IITs, NITs, and IIITs.
• The examination is also conducted for recruitment in PSUs like ONGC, NTPC, GAIL, BHEL, and IOCL.
• Qualified students pursuing higher education will also receive a monthly fellowship/stipend from the Ministry of Education.
• The examination is conducted in CBT mode for a duration of 3 hours with 65 questions to be solved for a total of 100 marks.

GATE 2027 Dates

GATE 2027 dates have been published on the official website by IIT Madras. As per the official dates, GATE 2027 registration began on 2 September 2026 and will end on 27 September without late fee.

• GATE 2027 registration deadline with a late fee is 5 October 2026.
• You can edit your GATE application form after submission only from 14 October to 21 October 2026.
• IIT Madras will publish the GATE city allotment on 4 January 2027, and the GATE 2027 admit card will be released in the 2nd week of January 2027.
• GATE 2027 examination will be conducted on 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21 February 2027 and the result will be announced on 19 March 2027.

While registering for GATE 2027, you may face issues like DigiLocker consent page error, already registered email ID error, and error in DigiLocker via GOAPs portal. IIT Madras has released videos, as listed below, to overcome these issues and complete the application process smoothly.

GATE 2027 Registration Fees

GATE 2027 registration fee has been prescribed by IIT Madras on the official website.

• GATE 2027 application fee is INR 1000 for female/SC/ST/PWD candidates for each test paper before the regular deadline.
• GATE 2027 application fee is INR 2000 for all other candidates before the regular deadline for each test paper.
• GATE 2027 registration fee for each test period for the extended period is INR 1500 for female/SC/ST/PWD and INR 2500 for all other candidates.

Users on Reddit discussed GATE 2027 application process, and a user asked if there is a problem if his laptop is old and its camera limit is 480p. Users responded that it is recommended that the camera be at least 5 MP, and in this case, a photo can be taken with a mobile phone and it is allowed.

GATE 2027 Registration: Documents Required

During the GATE 2027 registration, you will be required to fill out the application form using official documents like government ID, Class 10/12 marksheets, graduation certificate, etc. These documents are not required to be uploaded during GATE 2027 registration; however, reserved category candidates must upload category certificates at the time of GATE Registration via DigiLocker.

At the time of GATE 2027 registration, you will be required to upload a photograph and signature as per the specifications prescribed by IIT Madras.

• Photograph should be uploaded for GATE registration with dimensions 530 x 690 pixels and an image size of 600 KB.
• Signature uploaded for GATE registration should have dimensions 580 x 180 pixels and an image size of 300 KB.
