Does a High CAT Percentile Get You a Scholarship?

CAT does not award a scholarship automatically at a particular percentile. Financial support usually comes from the admitting institute, a government scheme or a private foundation. Need-based aid examines family finances; merit awards can depend on performance after joining the programme. A 99 percentile score is not, by itself, a fee-waiver letter.

Compare admission eligibility and aid eligibility separately. The CAT cutoff determines an admission-screening requirement, while a scholarship may add an income ceiling, category condition, academic standing or restriction on holding another award.

IIM Financial Aid: Compare the Main Conditions

A family-income limit means you may apply; it does not mean every eligible applicant receives the maximum award. Institutes can assess savings, assets, loan commitments and academic performance differently. Read an offer as a grant only after the institute has approved it.

IIM Bangalore Financial Aid and Merit Awards

IIM Bangalore’s PGP need assessment considers household income, savings, real estate and other assets, together with relevant loan obligations. Income earned by the student before joining is part of the financial picture. Faculty interaction follows the initial assessment, and the aid percentage depends on the resulting financial-need score.

Its listed Aditya Birla Scholarship is INR 1.75 lakh a year. Renewal in the second year requires the student to be in the top 25% of the first-year batch. The OPJEMS award listed for second-year PGP students is INR 1.50 lakh; selection includes the sponsor’s test, rather than being awarded to every CAT high scorer.

These are institute-listed schemes and selection conditions, not an assurance of funding for every student entering through CAT 2026.

IIM Kozhikode: Merit Scholarship and NBFA

Kozhikode’s merit scholarship uses academic-year CGPA for its PGP, PGP-LSM and PGP-Finance programmes, with one scholarship for every 20 students in each of the first and second years. This is performance inside the programme, not a direct conversion of CAT percentile into scholarship money.

For need-based financial assistance, the family-income ceiling is INR 8 lakh for the preceding financial year. The student must have taken an education loan from a scheduled commercial bank to fund the programme. Second-year applicants need the bank’s loan-disbursement details in the prescribed format. The conduct requirement also applies.

A student receiving more than one scholarship, stipend, grant or assistance must retain one and refund the others under the institute’s stated rule. That restriction matters when a private award arrives after institute aid has already been sanctioned.

IIM Visakhapatnam: When Is Aid Awarded?

IIM Visakhapatnam conducts its aid process in the second year, after students have had a chance to seek external scholarships in the first. Applicants need household income no higher than INR 8 lakh, a first-year CGPA of at least 2.20 and no more than 12 deficit credit points.

Students on the slow track, those facing disciplinary action, and recipients selected for continuing external support covering 100% of tuition are excluded under the policy. Aid covers tuition, not mess, hostel, deposits or personal expenses. The merit score combines first-year CGPA (30%), admission merit score (30%) and household income (40%).

This timing means second-year aid cannot be treated as cash available to pay the initial admission deposit.

Documents and Application Steps

Start with the admitting institute’s aid notice and the scheme’s eligible programme list. Match the income year on the certificate to the year requested in that notice. A current salary slip alone may not establish total household income where there are several earning members or other sources of income.

Keep fee payments and aid decisions as separate entries in your budget. Tuition support may exclude living costs, and an application can be eligible without being selected. Check the award’s coverage and disbursement stage before reducing the amount you need to arrange.
