DILR forms an important section of the CAT Exam Syllabus. CAT 2025 DILR Syllabus can be broadly categorized into Data Caselets, Seating Arrangement, Blood Relation, Graphs, Tables and puzzles on words and letters. 

CAT DILR section would consist of 20 questions worth 60 marks divided into 4 sets each with two sets of six questions and two sets of four questions. However, as per CAT test-takers, the difficulty level of questions asked from the CAT DILR syllabus is moderate to high.

CAT DILR Paper Analysis

As already discussed in the introductory part, the difficulty level of CAT DILR varies from moderate to high. A correct attempt of 14-15 questions out of 20 questions in this section is treated to be a good attempt. Since CAT is conducted in 3 different slots, the same would be analyzed with respect to the year 2021.

  • Since Data Interpretation is all about analysing data, aspirants should learn comprehending voluminous data in a short duration.
  • Aspirants should familiarize themselves with different forms of charts viz. bar chart, pie chart etc.
  • Aspirants should improve their skills in handling analytical mathematics.
  • Aspirants must improve their speed while solving problems
  • Aspirants must improve the percentage increase or decrease or the comparison ratio calculation as an effective time-saving skill.
  • Aspirants must practice DI sets that require reasoning skills
  • It is advisable to attempt questions first that can be answered in 2 to 2.5 minutes.
  • It is advised not to try to solve all problems at one go. Attempt easier ones first followed by the difficult ones.

  • Candidates must reach the CAT exam centre at least 20 minutes before the start of the examination.
  • Time management is most important for solving questions.
  • Candidates must attempt the most difficult questions at the last.
  • Candidates must leave their cell phones or other personal items before entering the exam hall.

Mistakes to Avoid while attempting CAT DILR Section

  • Not formulating a proper study strategy: Aspirants are advised to plan a proper study strategy based on the syllabus and weightage of important topics. Since in the CAT DILR section, all topics have equal weightage, aspirants have to design their study plan based on their grip on a particular topic.
  • Not attempting a sufficient number of practice questions: Solving one mock test per month will never give the best results. Aspirants are advised to solve at least one mock test every week which will in turn increase the speed and accuracy to solve questions.
  • Not analyzing the results of practice questions: Only attempting mock tests does not bear fruitful results. Aspirants are required to analyze their performance after each mock test and segregate the weak areas and try to improve over them.
