CAT Study Material by Section

Build a small set of resources with different jobs: concept explanation, complete questions, timed attempts and review. A folder of notes without enough fresh questions leaves the application step untested.

The CAT syllabus helps identify the topic behind a mistake. In VARC, the subject of a passage is not a separate factual syllabus. In DILR, a table without the associated constraints is not a complete set. In QA, a formula sheet alone cannot show when a method applies.

Keep solved examples for learning and unseen questions for checking progress. If you remember the answer from an earlier attempt, use a fresh problem before treating the method as secure.

CAT Papers, PDFs and Inline Practice

Choose the year, slot and section before attempting a past paper. Pair any answer key with the same question order. A year-wise archive and a subject-only PDF serve different practice sessions.

The inline subject exercises are original practice with explanations after submission. They are separate from the dated paper downloads. A short train-capacity set or RC passage can diagnose a particular skill; it does not reproduce a complete CAT section.

For DILR, all diagrams and numerical labels matter. For VARC, the whole passage and full options matter. For QA, the problem conditions and response format matter. If a source is incomplete, use another complete exercise rather than filling the gaps with assumptions.

Books and Digital Concept Resources

Select a concept source that explains the step you cannot yet perform. The following McGraw Hill 2026 courseware titles cover different areas; alternatives and edition identifiers are listed in the CAT books guide.

McGraw Hill Edge also offers CAT Essentials as a free starting resource with sectional tests, a mock and explanations. It requires enrolment. Its tests are publisher material, not the official CAT mock.

Digital course access and a printed book are different products. Use the features included with your particular edition or account. Adding a second source makes sense when it supplies a missing explanation or question type, not merely another copy of the same chapter.

Official Mock, Full Mocks and Short Drills

The CAT 2026 mock link is scheduled for 12 November. The official FAQ describes its questions as illustrative. Use it to become familiar with the interface, navigation and answer entry.

The standard CAT lasts 120 minutes, with 40 minutes each for VARC, DILR and QA in that order. You cannot move time between sections. PwBD compensatory time is shared equally across the three sections.

Correct answers earn 3 marks; wrong MCQs lose 1 mark. Wrong typed answers and blanks score zero. The CAT mock-test guide explains how to separate raw marks, practice accuracy and a provider's percentile estimate.

Revision Notes That Address Real Errors

A useful revision note identifies the condition that changed the answer. Avoid copying a full solution when one missed assumption or unit caused the error.

Original example: a value rises from 80 to 100, an increase of 25%. Returning from 100 to 80 is a 20% decrease. A note saying "percentage change uses the starting value" records the reason those percentages differ.

Reattempt the missed question with the solution closed, then solve a similar one with a changed condition. If the same wrong step appears again, return to that part of the explanation. The CAT preparation plan connects these repairs with timed practice.
